CD25 is seen in all typical HCL, which are also positive for CD103 and CD11c. Other B-cell lymphomas are CD25+, and therefore expression of this antigen is not specific for HCL. CD43 is useful in differentiating FL (CD43−) from Burkitt lymphoma (CD43+). These two lymphomas differ also in expression of bcl-2. Most FL are bcl-2+ and Burkitt lymphomas are bcl-2−. Bcl-2 is also helpful in differentiating follicular hyperplasia (CD10+ germinal center cells are bcl-2−) from FL (CD10+ cells are most often bcl-2+).

Note moderate expression of all four pan-T antigens (arrow). Lower panels represent an example of T-cell lymphoma with aberrant expression of CD2 (brighter than normal T-cells marked with *), loss of CD5 and CD7, and increased forward scatter (arrow). 18 T-PLL (A, bone marrow staining for CD3; B, molecular test Atlas of differential diagnosis in neoplastic hematopathology 34 with clonal peak (arrow); C–G, flow cytometry). Flow cytometry immunophenotyping shows no loss of pan-T antigen expression (D–G).

14 Evaluation of prognostic markers (CD38 and ZAP70) in Bchronic lymphocytic leukemia. Leukemic cells have typical phenotype with CD5 and CD23 coexpression (A). They are positive for CD38 (B) and ZAP70 (D). 3 presents the differential diagnosis of mature B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders. CD5 expression is typical for B-chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma (B-CLL/SLL), mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) and a subset of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma with de novo CD5 expression. CD10 expression is most typical for follicular lymphoma (FL), Burkitt lymphoma and a subset of diffuse large Bcell lymphomas (DLBCL).
